BALTIMORE, MD (November 4, 2003) -- Alexander
& Tom, Inc., (www.alextom.com), an interactive
marketing agency, has completed the development
of a CD-ROM based training program for the Federal
Highway Administration and Census Bureau.
The CD-ROM, titled "The Census Transportation
Planning Package (CTPP) for the 2000 Census",
provides valuable information for use by metropolitan
transportation planners nationwide. The CD-ROM
teaches Transportation Planners how to use Census
data to: evaluate existing traffic conditions,
develop or update travel demand models and analyze
demographic and travel trends. This information
enables traffic planners to forecast the needs
for new roads, streets, and highways.
The Census Transportation Planning Package 2000
(CTPP 2000) educates transportation planners on
the best methods for using the wealth of available
Census data to achieve their goals. "Multimedia
was clearly the best choice for the CTPP 2000
training initiative, " states Billy Twigg,
CEO and President of Alexander & Tom, Inc.
"It's the best training platform to use to
effectively communicate abstract ideas and keep
learners engaged in comprehensive content. A multimedia
CD-ROM, quickly and easily distributed nationwide,
provides a variety of learning experiences---visual,
interactive (kinesthetic) and audio - so different
styles of learners get the maximum benefit from
using the same training package."
CTPP 2000 is a set of special data from the decennial
census designed for transportation planners. The
data are tabulated from answers to the Census
2000 long form questionnaire, mailed to one in
six U.S. households. Because of the large sample
size, the Census data provides planners with comprehensive
national data in a standard format.
The CD contains three types of course training
content: lecture-style training, interactive exercises
and case studies. It is a self-paced, individualized
training program that provides an introduction
to Census data Five case studies demonstrate how
the census data can be used in transportation
planning applications.
Copies of the CTPP guidebook CDs were distributed
to all state Departments of Transportation, city
planning organizations, and Federal Highways Division
Office Planners.
